This isn't quite where I could use it yet, but for a 1.0 release and a good set of features to get started, it is something I don't have a Mac tool for this functionality yet. The developer is responsive and the software is actively maintained.įor any serious DB architect on the Mac, this is worth every penny. For MySQL and a few others, it's perfect out of the box. Though it doesn't (yet?) come configured to diagram for MS SQL Server, it is fairly trivial to get it configured for it in terms of diagramming. Import and export tools are awesome, and being able to see the raw query as you work is handy. Printed output is fantastic and you can turn on page-breaks as well, enabling you to move objects to fit on individual sheets just as you want. Color, notes and canvas areas make it easy to organize and group segments, types and blocks of entities around the work area. You don't have to hover over buttons to figure out what they do and most of the work takes place in the canvas area (and optionally, the inspector) keeping you from having to constantly return to a toolbar or menu. I've been using this for years now, and it is by far the best ER diagramming tool I've used on OS X or Windows.Įverything is straight-forward. Just thought I'd post an updated comment because my original one below is a bit outdated. PROS: solid ERD diagramming tool, which reliably produces good database scripts - in SQL as well as in other languages - which is directly usable in a variety of systems.ĬONS: very little graphics configuration options - your graphics will all look like java charts from the 1990's. More polish on the interface is still needed, as it still looks like a java app programmed by a newbie.
Also, although it is a solid data design tool, it is seriously lacking in the graphics department: the user is given very little control over the graph's appearance - it is impossible to even change the font used in the graphs, let alone change stroke and background colours. I will deduct 1 star, however, because the developer has been announcing version 3 for well over a year, making existing users fearful that development has been abandoned.
These features alone make it worth the money. Able to also connect to several databases and create the ERD diagram on-the-fly, thereby making it somewhat easier to reverse-engineer the data design of existing systems. Solid app, allowing you to draw ERD diagrams, which get reliably translated into the native script language - SQL or otherwise - of several databases, including: MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Filemaker, Rails and Django.
